Review Phase 回顾阶段2: GH and Parametric Design

This phase began with a basic tutorial on Grasshopper (GH), including training of its essential components. Unlike traditional design, parametric design is, by nature, based on algorithmic processes; this approach to design is made possible by GH. After we learned the fundamental tools and workflow of GH, we continued with modeling exercises based on several world-renowned architectural projects. Finally, we concluded Phase 2 with an exploration of the software’s essential concepts in order to fully understand its mechanism.[br]
这个阶段从Grasshopper (GH) 的基本教程开始,包括基本命令的练习与运用。不同于传统设计,参数化设计是从自然中来,根据算法逻辑通过GH来实现。了解了GH的基本工具和工作流程,我们对世界知名建筑进行建模练习。第二阶段是通过软件的基本概念以充分了解其工作机制。

Student Work
A gallery of student work submitted after tutorials of all levels of Parametric modeling in GH.
The modeling skills/topics of focus included: automation of typical Rhino modeling process in GH, list type (flatten and graft), staircasing, morphing, component and proliferation, geodesic, data manipulation, fast façade generation (GH Plugins Lunch Box and Weaverbird), and simple implementation of voronoi and field system. Those were taught through facade and form modeling of a combination of our custom projects and world-renowned design projects. A strong emphasis was put to explaining that multiple approaches can exist at the same time on GH algorithmic modeling and tutors showed students its best practice among multiple approaches. [br]建模技能/主题主要包括:典型犀牛建模过程通过GH自动生成,list type (flatten and graft),staircasing, morphing, component and proliferation, geodesic, data manipulation,快速立面生成(GH插件Lunch Box和Weaverbird),voronoi和field系统的简单实现。这些命令通过我们做过的项目和世界知名项目的外立面和形式造型来学习。需要强调的是GH的算法建模可以同时存在多种方法,导师会给学生展示最佳方法。

Lecture 04 “Parametric Modeling / Design”

The phase 2 was preceded by the lecture “Parametric Modeling and Design” given by the director and principal tutor of this workshop Chie Fuyuki. The choice of content was carefully made to deepen students understanding of the topic; definition of “parametric design”, comparison of contemporary design paradigms, a quick history through an introduction of Antonio Gauidi’s work.[br]
进入第二段之前,workshop的主讲及导师冬木千枝作给学员们介绍关于“参数化建模与设计”。为了加深学生对主题的理解来选择内容;“参数化设计”的定义,当代设计模式的比较,高迪作品的介绍。

GH modeling tutorial and exercise to regenerate samples of known design projects and their details that require basic parametric skills. The only example project that covered all parts of a single project like both form, façade, and landscape. The process incorporated the simplest usage of field and voronoi system.
